About BGSU Hillel
BGSU Hillel provides opportunities for Jewish students to explore and celebrate their Jewish identity. BGSU Hillel's mission is to enrich the lives of Jewish undergraduate and graduate students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. BGSU Hillel is dedicated to providing Jewish students with a "home away from home" where a broad range of Jewish viewpoints is welcome. In addition to offering religious services, BGSU Hillel plans and implements cultural, educational, community service, and social activities. Undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and community members are all invited and encouraged to become a part of our Jewish community and activities.
BGSU Hillel's mission is to enrich the lives of Jewish undergraduate and graduate students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. Hillel student leaders, professionals and lay leaders are dedicated to creating a pluralistic, welcoming and inclusive environment for Jewish college students, where they are encouraged to grow intellectually, spiritually and socially. Hillel helps students find a balance in being distinctively Jewish and universally human by encouraging them to pursue tzedek (social justice), tikkun olam (repairing the world) and Jewish learning, and to support Israel and global Jewish peoplehood. Hillel is committed to excellence, innovation, accountability and results.
BGSU Hillel is a Jewish Student Organizations classified as a "Small and Mighty" and supported by the Soref Initiative. Approximately 25% of Jewish students throughout North America attend institutions of higher learning with small Jewish communities and limited resources. Established through the generosity of the Samuel and Helene Soref Foundation, Hillel's Soref Initiative enables students and local college and university communities to celebrate Jewish life on campus with smaller Jewish populations. The Soref Initiative provides guidance, financial assistance, online resources and a communication network for Jewish students and the faculty advisors, for hundreds of campuses throughout North America.
While BGSU’s Jewish population is small (approximately 200 students), BGSU is less than 25 miles away from the city of Toledo and its larger Jewish Community. Toledo is home to four congregations—Congregation B’nai Israel (Conservative), Congregation Etz Chayim (Orthodox), Lubavitch - Chabad House of Toledo, Shomer Emunim (Reform). The United Jewish Council (UJC) of Greater Toledo is the central address for Jewish philanthropy, community programming and services for the Jewish community of Northwest Ohio and parts of Southeast Michigan. BGSU Hillel is the grateful recipient of financial support from the United Jewish Council of Greater Toledo.
About BGSU
Bowling Green State University (BGSU), located in Northwest Ohio, was established in 1910 as a teacher training institution. While BGSU is still known for its teacher education programs (BGSU is the 14th largest producer of teachers in the country), the university has grown to a residential campus of more than 20,000 students at its main campus and offers more than 200 undergraduate degree programs, 67 masters’ degree programs, 2 specialist degree programs, and 14 doctoral programs. ABOUT UT HILLEL
UT Hillel is a student organization for all Jewish students who attend the University of Toledo, as well as students at surrounding Colleges/Universities (Owens Community College, Lourdes College, others in Northwest Ohio). The organization’s purpose is to provide social and educational opportunities of a Jewish nature to students. Hillel is open for anyone on campus to get involved in, including undergraduate/graduate students, faculty, and community members…all are welcomed. UT Hillel has programs 2-3 times a month, which includes at least 1 Shabbat dinner, either on or off campus. UT Hillel also has a Facebook group. Search for “UT Hillel” and you should be able to find us.

ABOUT UT
The University of Toledo is one of 13 state universities in Ohio. UT was established in 1872 and became a member of the state university system in 1967. The University of Toledo and the Medical University of Ohio (now known as the Health Science Campus) merged July 2006 to form the third-largest public university operating budget in the state. UT offers more than 250 undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. UT also offers part-time and full-time options of study, day and evening classes, and is one of the largest distance-learning programs in the nation.
